1984-1989 Nissan 300ZX / 280ZX Brake Hose Modification Page

Go to auto parts store, junk yard, parking lot (watch out for owner) and get a front brake hose from a 280ZX.
Side and year do not matter, they are all the same.
To be less confusing, ask for the driver's side front brake hose for a 1982 280ZX.
This is the rubber hose that goes from the brake caliper to the hard line.
Probably be a good time to buy some more brake fluid as you will have to bleed the system when you are done.
Tools requires
- regular 12 mm socket
- regular 14 mm socket
- 3" extension
- Socket Wrench
- 9 mm open ended wrench
- 10 mm open ended wrench
- 12 mm open ended wrench
- 14 mm open ended wrench
- 17 mm open ended wrench
- 19 mm open ended wrench
- vacuum bleeder (optional if you have an assistant)
- vice grips (optional)
Parts Needed
- Front 280ZX Brake Hose
- Brake fluid
Time Required
Steps
- Get car in position so you can work under it (jackstands, ramp, pit, lift, dig a hole under it, etc)
- Locate damper on passenger side frame rail at approximately the firewall.
- Remove clutch damper and hose that goes from damper to the slave cylinder. Warning: Fluid will probably leak out of hoses and hard lines. Don't get it into your eyes.
- Remove slave cylinder.
- Attach 280ZX brake hose to hard line coming from clutch master cylinder.
- Attach clutch slave cylinder to 280ZX brake hose.
- Attach clutch slave cylinder to transmission.
- Fill clutch master cylinder with brake fluid.
- Bleed clutch lines until no air comes out of bleeder.
Questions about this modification
Q: What is the point of this mod?
A: There are a few reasons to do this.
- The clutch damper failed, and you don't want to spend $87.25 (list) at the Nissan dealer for a new one (p/n = 30660-01P00).
- You want a more positive feel of the clutch. (open to debate)
- You hate the idea of bleeding two things to bleed the clutch.
Q: Why do it?
A: Cause the cars are old and stuff doesn't last forever.
Q: When to do it?
A: When you are replacing the clutch master and slave cylinders cause one or both failed.
